I am writing to inform you that a Live Facial Recognition operation will be running in North Kensington today. There is visible signage to alert the community that this is happening and walking past the cameras is optional. LFR is proving to be an invaluable tool in crime fighting across London. These deployments are used Met Wide on a rolling program.

Live Facial Recognition (LFR) is a real‑time technology using by police cameras to help identify people.

Cameras scan faces of people passing by in public spaces

The system converts each face into a biometric “template” (measurements of facial features)

It compares those templates to a police watchlist of known individuals

Camera scans faces in a defined area

Faces are instantly converted into data

The system compares them against a watchlist (people police already want to find)

If a possible match is found:

Officers nearby receive an alert
A human officer checks the match before taking action

🗑️ What happens to your data?

If you are NOT on the watchlist, your image is deleted
